Three critical vulnerabilities in Ubiquiti’s UniFi OS, tracked as CVE-2026-34908, CVE-2026-34909, and CVE-2026-34910, have been added to CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog following confirmed active exploitation in the wild. All three carry CVSS 3.1 scores of 10.0 and affect every UniFi OS-powered device category, including Cloud Gateways, Network Controllers, Protect NVRs, Access Hubs, and Talk appliances.
What Happened
Bishop Fox researchers demonstrated that the three flaws can be chained to achieve full remote code execution with elevated privileges without authentication. CVE-2026-34908 is an improper access control flaw that allows unauthorized changes to a UniFi OS system. CVE-2026-34909 is a path traversal vulnerability that exposes sensitive files on the underlying operating system, including configuration data and stored credentials. CVE-2026-34910 is an input validation flaw that enables injection of arbitrary OS commands, serving as the final link in the unauthenticated root-access chain.
Researchers at PwnDefend observed live attacks within days of Ubiquiti’s security advisory publication, with attackers deploying Mirai botnet malware on exposed devices and creating rogue administrator accounts during automated reconnaissance activity, according to BleepingComputer.
Why It Matters
UniFi-branded network equipment is widely deployed across enterprise, campus, and SMB environments. A compromised UniFi gateway or network controller gives an attacker a position inside the network perimeter with access to traffic flows, device management, and connected infrastructure. The Mirai loader pattern observed in confirmed attacks suggests these devices are being recruited into botnets for DDoS or proxy operations. The same initial access chain that installs botnet malware can equally be used to deploy more targeted implants in higher-value environments.
All three CVEs require only network adjacency to exploit. No authentication and no user interaction are needed, making internet-exposed UniFi management interfaces an immediate and attractive target.
What to Do Now
Ubiquiti patched all three CVEs in UniFi OS Server version 5.0.8, released May 21, 2026. Administrators who have not yet applied this update should treat devices as potentially compromised and investigate before patching. CISA’s Binding Operational Directive 26-04 set a June 26, 2026 remediation deadline for federal civilian executive branch agencies. Bishop Fox has published a free detection script on GitHub to help administrators identify vulnerable instances.
